The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me: Thy rod and
thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of mine enemies: thou anointest my head
wih oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life: And I will
dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The Burial of the Dead

Loretta I. Green

THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD Opening Anthem The Collect First Reading: Revelation 21:2-7 Psalm 33:1-8, 18-22 (recited in unison by the people) Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous. it is good for the just to sing praises. Praise the Lord with the harp; play to him on the psaltery and lyre. Sing for him a new song; sound a fanfare with all your skill upon the trumpet. For the word of the Lord is right, and all his work are sure. He loves righteousness and justice; the loving-kindnesss of the Lord fills the whole earth. By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, by the breath of his mouth all the heavenly hosts. He gathers up the waters of the ocean as in a water-skin; and stores up the depths of the sea. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all that dwell in the world stand in awe of him. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him, on those who wait upon his love, To pluck their lives from death, and to feed them in time of famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. Indeed, our heart rejoices in him, for in his holy Name we put our trust. Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, as we have put our trust in you.
Then, all standing, the Priest reads the Gospel, first saying The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according the John. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Gospel: John 11:21-27 After the Gospel, the Priest says The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Homily The Rev. Melanie McCarley Remarks Mr. Donald Sheaffer Hymn: "How Great Thou Art" The Apostles' Creed (recited in unison by the people) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Lord's Prayer The Prayers of the People
The Commendation Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. You only are immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so did you ordain when you created me saying, "You are dust, and to dust you shall return." All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. The Committal Rest eternal grant to her O Lord; And let light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Hymn "The Old Rugged Cross" The Dismissal
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
'See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.'
And the one who was seated on the throne said,
'See, I am making all things new.'
Also he said, 'Write this,
for these words are trustworthy and true.'
Then he said to me, 'It is done!
I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the beginning and the end.
To the thirsty I will give water as a gift
from the spring of the water of life.
Those who conquer will inherit these things,
and I will be their God and they will be my children.'
Martha said to Jesus,
'Lord, if you had been here,
my brother would not have died.
But even now I know that God
will give you whatever you ask of him.'
Jesus said to her,
'Your brother will rise again.'
Martha said to him,
'I know that he will rise again
in the resurrection on the last day.'
Jesus said to her,
'I am the resurrection and the life.
Those who believe in me,
even though they die, will live,
and everyone who lives and
believes in me will never die.
Do you believe this?'
She said to him,
'Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah,
the Son of God, the one coming into the world.'
