Oh learned men of God and Israel
Why seek we salvation through repellence of Roman rule?
Our Israel revelled in the glory of David's reign,
But the mighty kingdom came to nought.
Did not our prophets call Israel to a divine mission?
Where are legions to counter Roman might?
Oh learned men of God and Israel
We have a treasure in our great law;
But do we distort its true intent?
My Nazarene friend with a grievious Sabbath ailment
Denied healing herbs and food by Rabbis quoting the Law.
Was the Law given for human need or for human burden?
Oh learned men of God and Israel
Did not our prophets call us to a life of quality?
Under Israel's God for living joyously and abundantly?
With a higher love, the spirit of the law,
Wrapped in the purity of heart and mind?
Why do we seek the peace of Romans and gentiles,
Serving Mammon and Caesar?
In the love and care of Israel's God
Are we not promised a wonderful counselor?
"Dear mother and father why did you seek me sorrowing?
Loving you in Nazareth I have searched for God's truth.
To commune with him through thought and prayer;
I believe he knows of my wondering and longing,
And is giving my life a divine shaping.
Truly you knew I would reach for him...
in pursuing the prophets."
"Our dear brilliant, noble and praying Son
Your mother reveres your divine searching.
Inadequate are we to add to your wisdom,
Though we know of your loving devotion
To our great Israel God
Who is surely listening...
to the longings of your youth."
