the

Shown with his blessing
Aborting liberty through
congressional machinations;
Trampling constitutional mandate by
Presidential decrees;
Dethroning Bill of Rights through
Judiciary distortions;
-
Freedom cries for
protection;
Democracy flounders
periously;
People confused and
roundly biased,
For security increase,
beckon authoritarian rule.
-
Calling for an agency
non-public funded;
Creating an organization free
from governmental restraint -
To challenge the arching
of Constitutional foes -
To champion the purpose glorious
of The Bill of Rights!
-
Seldom to be praised,
not seeking self-gain;
Not to be popular,
quick to receive blame.
Public support of democracy
subject to wavering -
Own rights paramount,
those of others assailing!
-
Thus came into being
the
A.C.L.U.
For the Bill of Rights
to be valiantly true.
Held in awesome respect,
never treated lightly,
Amongst the stars of freedom,
shining most brightly!
