Obituary Summary on October 22, 2022
"Christine Hammer became an incentive for me as the parish's
past Sexton to make sure the Memorial Garden was presentable
before Sunday worship.
During many of my early Sunday morning church preparations,
I encountered Christine. We exchanged happy small talk as
she entered the church from the parking lot and proceeded
to the sanctuary for the 8:00 AM worship service.
In the sanctuary, Christine sat in the western pews close
to the windows toward her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hammer,
interred in Memorial Garden Wall Niche 10A.
In April seven years ago our parish said farewell to Sarah
long before we would have hoped. She fought health problems
bravely moving beyond them.
Previously, while I worked at Paul's Peers Respite Care,
I met Sarah when she volunteered to assist with our
program's arts and crafts therapy. Sarah was an
enthusiastic artist and teacher.
I also remember Sarah's enthusiasm for presidential
candidate Barack Obama. Although political campaigning
is inappropriate within the parish, I secretly shared
her enthusiasm. I still have one of the Obama pins she
purposely left one day at the parish."

"I also got to know Sarah through the Respite Care Ministry.
Sarah was a wonderful addition to our program,
her artistic talents were awesome!
I truly can hear her laughter still.
Sarah also shared her health issues
which I think was a very brave thing to do."

"David & My Church Family, Thank you all for your kind words
and memories of my Sarah Elizabeth. There isn't a day or moment
that I don't reflect on her laughter and courage and wisdom
with others and her dealing with challenges of devastating
illnesses that consumed her young life. Our church, at
St. Paul's gave us encouragement, support, and love in our
daily life. I am eternally grateful for each and everyone
of you. God's Blessings! Chris"
