Laura Lynn Schmidlin was born on December 14, 1965 in Toledo, Ohio to James Schmidlin and Connie Asbaugh.

She graduated from Springfield High School in Ohio in 1983. She went to the University of Toledo in Ohio, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation and Leisure and a Master's Degree in Education.

Laura married Tim Kleparek on August 8, 1997. Her children are Ben and Emily.

Laura taught in the Springfield School District for 25 years.

She was a director of a YMCA Summer Day Camp at the Lucas County Recreation Center. She coached soccer and served on the Springfield Soccer Association. She was a Girl Scout leader. Laura volunteered at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Crew Leader, and Vestry Member.

Laura died on July 30, 2017 at her home in South Toledo, Ohio.
