John Harland Tallman was born on May 15, 1949 in Kenton, Hardin, Ohio to B. Constance (McKay) and Dr. Harland Maxwell Tallman. His sister is Mary Margaret Tallman

He graduated from Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio in 1967. He graduated with a Bachelor of Art's Degree in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1971. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1973. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toledo in Ohio in 1984.

John married Linda Kay Campbell around 1971. Their children are Sarah Campbell Tallman and John Adam Tallman.

He was a School Psychologist for the Fulton County Board of Education and later for the Toledo Public Schools, both in Ohio.

Dr. John Tallman then opened a private practice in the Fallen Timbers complex on Holland Road in Maumee, Ohio. He helped patients quit smoking using hypnosis. He had contracts with local General Motors and Jeep plants to help employees quit smoking.

He was a member of American Psychological Association's divisions of School Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Family Psychology, and Clinical Hypnosis; the National Association of School Psychologists; and the Maumee Valley School Psychologists Association.

John was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio serving as Chalice Bearer and Lay Reader.

He was an Amateur Photographer, a Bicycle Enthusiast, and Conservationist. John loved his three cats.

John died at home on June 27, 1999 in Maumee, Ohio.
