Charles Hamilton Russell was born on July 29, 1913 in the Bronx, New York to Anna Brigham and Amos Russell. His sister is Grace Russell Huneke.

He was a choir boy at Cathedral Church, St. John the Divine in New York.

Charles graduated from New York University.

He wrote training manuals for the military during World War II.

Charles married Mary Elizabeth Robinson. Their children are David Robinson Russell and Charles Peter Russell.

He had a career in the packaging and marketing of products. He worked for Ciba Geigy chemical company, retiring in 1982, and moving to the Toledo, Ohio area.

Charles skied, hiked, rafted, and canoed. He was a camp counselor. He served as President of the Green Mountain Club. He was active in the Y.M.C.A.

He enjoyed woodworking.

Charles loved reading, book collecting, and calligraphy. He was a member of the Miniature Book Society. He was a Docent at the Toledo Museum of Art. He was active with the Toledo Library serving as President of the Friends of the Library.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio. He served as a Lay Reader, Chalice Bearer, and Delegate to Diocese of Ohio Annual Convention. He gave editorial and art direction in the creation of the Sesquicentennial Book of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Maumee, Ohio.

Charles died on February 24, 2007.
