Peter Wiant Wendler was born on April 27, 1932 in Fremont, Ohio to Willis John Wendler and Ann Elizabeth (Wiant) Wendler. His brother is Willis John Wendler.

He graduated from Gibsonburg High School, Ohio in 1950. He went to Ohio State University, completing degrees in Business Administration, Marketing, and Advertising in 1957.

After his sophomore year, Peter temporarily left Ohio State University to attend Naval Aviation Officers Flight Training in Pensacola, Florida. Leading to Peter serving in Airborne Early Warning VW4 Squadron, the Hurricane Hunters, as its youngest Plane Commander.

Peter met Marilyn 'Marty' Van Voorhis at Ohio State University. While with the U.S. Navy, Peter married Marilyn in 1954. His children are Laura Schneider, Melissa Steinecker, and Andrew Wendler.

After finishing at Ohio State University, Peter co-owned the National School of Meat Cutting at Toledo with his father, Willis Wendler. He started as the Home Study Course director and registrar. This lead to the co-ownership of the whole Toledo school and Kurtz Market.

After retiring from the Toledo Meat Cutting school in the mid 1980's, Peter worked for Bodette Marine Supply of Toledo.

An active Maumee resident since 1959, Peter served on Maumee City Council, Maumee Planning Commission, Maumee Administrative Board, Citizens Committee for Schools, Union School PTA, and the Old Maumee Association.

He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Navy Hurricane Hunters' Association, American Legion Post 333, Toledo JayCees, Toledo Country Club, Maumee Valley Historical Society, Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor, Ohio Historical Society, Quality of Life Committee, and St.Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio.

Peter died on October 11, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio.
