Joanne 'Jan' (Jorgensen) (Greene) Deatrick was born on Wednesday, October 28, 1924 to Hazel Maud Stratton and Karl Sofus Jorgensen in El Paso, Texas.
When she was a child, her family moved to Long Beach, California. Jan attended the University of Southern California. She was a member of the Junior League of Long Beach, California.
Jan met Raymond 'Ray' Philip Greene in 1945 while he was serving in the United States Navy at Terminal Island in Los Angeles County, California. They were married on October 27, 1945. Their children are Kathleen Jan 'Kathy' Greene, Kristina Louise 'Tina' (Greene) Kauffman, and Raymond Karl Lance Greene.
Jan and Ray moved to Toledo, Ohio where Ray already successfully ran the 'Ray Greene and Company' boat builders on Byrne Road in Toledo. Ray and his company created the sixteen foot fiberglass sailing sloop, 'Rebel', making sailing more affordable. Jan helped operate the company especially the promotional and social aspects of the business.
Jan was an avid sailor. She was also the Toledo Blade Newspaper's 'Beauty of the Week' in January, 1952.
She founded and presided over the marine industry advertising and public relations 'WinYacht Agency'. Jan was the first female director on the board of directors of the 'Boating Business of America' which became the 'Marine Manufactures Association'.
Jan divorced Ray Greene in 1974. She moved back to California and married insurance agency owner John Frederick Deatrick in 1975. John died in September, 1985. Jan returned to Toledo in 2003.
Jan died at the Parkcliffe Alzheimer's Community on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Toledo, Ohio.
