Louis William H. Bigley was born on August 13, 1924 in Maumee, Ohio to Laura Amelia and Charles Harrison Bigley. His siblings are Wallace Sherwood Bigley, Chloris Lenore Grau, Homer Elton Bigley, Raymond Arthur Bigley, Paul H. Bigley, Phyllis I. Waggoner, and Charles Bigley, Junior.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 24, 1943. During World War II he served in 274th Armored Battalion.

Louis married Maxine around 1975. His children are Cheryl Christy, Dyane Gaylord, and Keith Bigley. His stepchildren are Jeff Beery, Timothy Beery, Debbie Braun, and Connie Murray.

He worked at the Columbia Gas Company for 38 years retiring in December, 1986. He was a member of Utility Workers of America Local 349.

Louis was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Maumee, Ohio.

He was a golfer and bowler. He was a fan of Ohio State and University of Toledo football.

Louis died at Glanzman Nursing Home on September 25, 2000 in Toledo, Ohio.

The USS Braine was serving as an early warning radar picket and support ship about forty miles out from the main force as part of task Force 51 for the invasion of Okinawa.
