Richard Bernard Sandys was born on March 4, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Edna Earle and Richard L. Sandys. His siblings are Dolores Davey, Thomas C. Sandys, and David H. Sandys.
Richard graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from to University of Toledo receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Richard was a teacher at the United State Air Force Base in Weathersfield, England in the 1963-1964 school year. There he met Zana Fulkerson and they were married in June of 1965. Their son is Erik Sandys.
Richard taught history and art at Toledo, Ohio public schools including Sherman Elementary, Cherry Street, Point Place, Bowsher High School, but mainly Byrndale Junior High School.
Richard started teaching American History at Byrndale Junior High School when it opened in 1976. Later, he also taught World History and Art. He retired in 1993, completing a 33 year career in education.
Upon his retirement, Richard became a Docent at the Toledo Museum of Art. He also served on the museum's Art-Travel and Library Committees.
He was a member of the Torch Club of Toledo - local professionals sharing knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.
Richard was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio.
He and Zana loved traveling to Europe, China, Kenya, and Egypt. Richard enjoyed the art and architecture of the world.
Richard died at St. Lukes Hospital on July 6, 2002 in Maumee, Ohio.
