David Carl Beekley was born on January 18, 1941 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to Dorothy Lachman Beekley and Harold Diffenderfer Beekley. His sister is Linda Jackowski.

David graduated from Pottstown High School in 1958. He was National Merit Scholar and received a National Lead scholarship to the University of Toledo. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1962 with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After military service, he graduated from the University of Michigan in December, 1966 with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

David was in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at the University of Toledo. He was in U. S. Army from January, 1963 to 1965. He served in an Ordnance division at Fort Riley, Kansas.

David married Cynthia Xanthopoulos on June 16, 1962. Their sons are Matthew Beekley and Alec Beekley.

He worked for Owens-Illinois for 16 years designing machinery and developing solar collectors. In 1982, he briefly operated his own business. Then he worked for Technology Concept Products, another machine design company in Adrian, Michigan, and finally Doehler-Jarvis until 1996.

David was a part-time Engineering and Mathematics teacher at the University of Toledo. In 1998 he became a full-time Mathematics teacher at the University of Toledo, retiring in 2010. He also was a tutor in Mentors in Toledo at McKinley School for 6 years.

He was a jazz trombonist playing in Jack Runyan's Night Sessions Band, Johnny Knorr's Band, the University of Toledo Alumni Band, the Genoa American Legion Band, Rusty's Band, the Owens Community College Band, and the Polish American Band.

After retiring he and his wife Cynthia traveled collecting art.

David died at Charter One Senior Living on March 14, 2020 in Sylvania, Ohio. David donated his body for scientific research.
