James 'Jim' Alan Rudes was born on August 28, 1926 in Gibsonburg, Ohio to Ruth Marjorie (Thurston) and George Adelbert Rudes. His siblings are George Rudes, Donald Leroy Rudes, and Virginia Mae Rudes.

He graduated from Ross High School in Fremont, Ohio in 1944.

Jim was a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.

He graduated from Bowling Green State University on July 8, 1952.

Jim married Patricia Louise Boller on July 9, 1952 in Shelby, Ohio. Their daughters are Elizabeth Ann Rudes, Tracy E. Dove, and Amy Walton.

He was a radio announcer at WSPD-AM in 1951. In 1954, he became newsman at WSPD-TV, Channel 13. Jim became a television news anchor until 1967. Then he was an investigative television reporter until 1991.

Jim acted, directed, or produced over ninety theatrical productions at community and professional theaters in northwest Ohio and southern Michigan. He played Ebeneezer Scrooge in the Toledo Repertoire Theatre's production of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' for fourteen consecutive years until 1992. He was co-founder of the Maumee Civic Theatre around 1970.

After retiring as a television reporter in May of 1991, he volunteered at the Area Office on Aging, becoming the coordinator of the 'Friend to Friend' program.

Jim was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio. On Palm Sunday of 1995, he directed the St. Paul's Chancel Players' performance of the The Easter of Claudia play in the church's sanctuary.

He became a member of the Lake Erie West Hall of Fame for the Performing Arts in 2001. He became a member of the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2003.

Jim died at St. Luke's Hospital on April 22, 2004 in Maumee, Ohio.
